New York born novelist Matt Sumell's first book Making Nice, which was released in February, is shaping up to be one of 2015's hottest debuts with great reviews from publications including the Guardian, the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, which described the book as 'cringe-inducingly funny'.

Making Nice, a collection of linked short stories, tells the story of Alby as he moves through life in a depressed state following the death of his mother, proving that a protagonist doesn't always have to be likeable to be interesting, funny and sympathetic. Now based in LA, Sumell is a graduate of UC Irvine's prestigious MFA program, following in the footsteps of writers such as Pulitzer Prize winning author Michael Chabon and Man Booker nominee Joshua Ferris.
